Data we collect
Track Timer is specifically designed to collect location data from your phone for the purposes of recording
your laps. Track Timer will also collect your IP address and Microsoft Account user ID, first & last names, for
use of the online services, and access your picture libraries on your phone for displaying backgrounds. By accepting
this agreement you consent to allowing this data to be recorded by Track Timer. Using Track Timer consitutes
acceptance of this agreement.
For basic lap recording functionality Track Timer uses the following data:
- Your current location is retrieved on opening the Track Timer application and submitted to the Track Timer
web service to retrieve a list of local tracks. This location is not persisted at the web service beyond
the scope of this query. - Your location is recorded at frequent intervals during lap timing to record your lap data and to identify
completion of a sector or lap. When timing is stopped this location data is persisted to your local phone
storage and the data from your best lap is uploaded to, and persisted on, the Track Timer web service.
For using the online services, i.e. retrieving tracks and storing & sharing best lap times, Track Timer uses the
following data:
- Your current IP address is sent with every web request.
- Your Microsoft Account user ID, first and last names are used to identify and authenticate you when connecting
to the Track Timer online services, to associate your vehicle details, best lap times and shared tracks with
you and to allow other people to connect with you.
For visual enhancement Track Timer use the following:
- Access to your picture libraries on your phone for displaying seclected pictures as backgrounds for tracks.
How we store and use your data
In its most basic form Track Timer persists location on your phone in isolated storage specific to this application as
well as uploading location data from your best lap to the Track Timer web service. The data persisted on the web
service includes all location data captured during your best lap and this information is stored against your
user ID. On your first log-in your first and last name are also stored against your user ID on the web service,
these are used to identify and authenticate you when connecting to the Track Timer online services, to associate
your vehicle details, best lap times and shared tracks with you and allow other opt-in Server Integration features
listed below. By default this information is private and not available for other users to view.
Track timer also offers a number of services, to which the user can opt-in through the settings page, that
change the how and where location data is stored.
OneDrive integration:
- Connecting Track Timer to OneDrive allows the application to upload your sessions to a folder in
your OneDrive account. A folder is created specifically for Track Timer data and full control over
this folder remains with the user. Once OneDrive integration is enabled you can select to have
Track Timer automatically upload sessions when timing is stopped or you can manually upload sessions
at a later time from within the application.
Server integration:
and all data stored by this service, are subject to the
Windows Azure Privacy Statement
- Sharing sessions: If you choose to share sessions with others then your best lap, as uploaded to the
Track Timer web service and including your location data, will be made available to others in the form
of the Leaderboard for each track. Other users can view your lap in detail and download your detailed
location data. - Sharing tracks: tracks you have created can be shared on an individual basis. If you choose to share
a track then location data collected from your phone during creation of the track (i.e. the location
of the track and data used to generate lap sectors) will be uploaded to the Track Timer web service
and made available for other users to download and use within the Track Timer application.
How you can control your data
Track Timer allows you to opt in and out of all location tracking and storage through the settings page
within the application. Disabling location collection completely will also disable core lap timing
functionality of Track Timer.
If you wish to have data related to your user ID removed from the Track Timer web service then please
